5巻より。浴室で矢代が心底の想いを吐露するきわめて重要なシーンから前半部分。

全体にトーンがずれており、また、幾つか深刻な誤訳と抜けがある。百目鬼、矢代、影山の誰と誰が似ていないかを言い表すさいに、ラスト近くで不自然な混乱も起きている。

英語ネイティヴの翻訳者はしばしば受動態を嫌い、日本語であえて省略して曖昧にしている主語や目的語を推測で補うのだが、ここでも「お前はいまも可愛い… でもお前は俺を怖がらせる」などのように変換されており、原文のニュアンスからは遠ざかっている。そのほか、以下の公式英語版とその対訳を原文と読み比べてもらえば、どういう点に問題があるか、おわかりいただけるだろう。

誤訳と雑訳。

なお、全巻を通じて共通する違和感を感じる点として、竜崎と矢代、黒羽根と三角などのケースのような場合の「惚れる」を “fall in love” “be in love with” と訳出するのは、恋愛感情未満の「男が男に惚れる」「男惚れ」という意味合いなので、過剰に甘すぎるのではないかと私は感じる。”fall for” 程度が最適と思う。

全面的誤訳を修正した。

5巻より。パトカーの中での竜崎と矢代の会話から。

なぜ、いちいち竜崎に「あんがとよ、でも〜」とまるでアメリカ人になったかの如く英会話文の定型に無理矢理当てはめて、矢代に向かって礼を言わせる必要性があるのか、個人的にはまったく共感できない。「すえたニオイ」を「良い匂い」としたり、話者の取り違えの誤読も多数。とくに最後で、竜崎のセリフが「もしお前がこのライフスタイルを続けたら、お前は（実際の病気の）癌になるぞ」と誤訳されているのは深刻だ。

 

Ryuzaki 

"Finally, I can get away from that infuriating face of yours.

Yashiro

"Ha Ha

What's that? 

You'll be released from prison soon."

 

Ryuzaki (in his mind)

"Fuck.

矢代のセリフ「ソンナコトナイヨー」がそのまま"Sonna koto naiyo~" とされ、小さく注釈で日向坂46の楽曲のタイトルだと言及されている。曲の発表は2020年。『囀る』5巻日本語版の発行は2017年。矢代のセリフはこの曲となんら関係がない。ふつうに英訳すべきと考える。また、「マワされてーだけ」が「全員と犯りてえだけ」と、「ガバガバ」が「淫乱」と雑訳されているのを修正した。
