いわゆる誤訳。「アソコと一緒で 鈍すぎんだよ」が「お前最近役立たずな」と変えられている。続く百目鬼のセリフ「……すみません」の「……」はすべて取り去られて百目鬼のたじろぐ感触と間合いの妙が消えている。

冒頭の平田のセリフ「それに、三角の親父と一緒にされたくねぇからな」が「それに、あいつ（＝矢代）を三角の親父と一緒の部屋に入れたくねぇからな」と変えられているほか、全面的に誤訳・雑訳。この例に限ったことではなく既刊全巻をとおして頻出するのだが、なぜ逐一「公衆便所」を「娼婦」だの「売女」だの勝手に言い換えねばならないのか個人的にはまったく共感できない。

最初とラストに誤訳。とくに「惚れたりとか もういい　“I don’t need it anymore. (/I had enough of it already.)"」は重要なセリフなのに、「そんなんなくていい  “I can do without it.”」とされ、このセリフ本来の意味が消えてしまっているのを正した。

幾つもの誤読・誤訳。そして、なぜか訳者は、井波が、かつて百目鬼と同じ所轄で、百目鬼の部下として働いていたと勘違いしている。刑事が若い警官の下で働くとは思えない。

——That guy said he completely loathed Yakuza to the point he got the creeps.
