◎例

4巻より。七原と竜崎の会話シーンから。

全般に誤訳と雑訳。「絵図」というような個性的で妙味のある表現が消えていたのも補った。

また、平田の役職名／敬称が省かれ、七原が平田を呼び捨てにしているが、たとえば杉本や百目鬼が七原を呼び捨てにする、天羽が平田や竜崎を呼び捨てにするなど、類似のケースは全巻通じて頻出し、ヤクザ社会の上下関係が把握できなくなるという問題が生じている。

矢代のセリフ「単なる巡り合わせの問題だ」が「単なる可能性の問題だ」と誤訳されているほか、細かな雑訳も。また、ヤクザ社会での話なので、「親」の代名詞は、性別をあえてぼかしてあらゆる性を表す “they / their / them” よりも、男性単数の “he / his / him” のほうが妥当と判断した。

ここでは、それぞれの句や節がどこにどうつながっていて、どの節がどの目的節を従えて機能しているかが、大幅に誤読されている。ひじょうに深刻な誤訳とその修正案。

幾つもの誤訳。「やはり」が「確実に」になったり、「こっちが加勢するまでもなく」が「彼らは援軍すら呼ばずに」となったり、途中三角のセリフで「あいつを殺ったのか？」と三人称単数の誰を指すのか不明な単語が使用されたり、鯨のセリフが「いや、七原はどうやら 逃げだせたようです 撃たれましたが 今は医者に行ってます」と誤読・誤訳されていたりなど、問題点が多いのを修正した。

"The guys who abducted Nanahara were, as expected, Hirata’s private army.

Yashiro-san and his subordinate handled them on their own. We didn’t have to give any assistance."

"Did they kill those two?"

 

Kujira (Whale)

"No. They seem to have released the two intentionally.

Nanahara got shot and they took him to the doctor's."

"I see. Is Yashiro alright?"

"Yes. He doesn't even seem like he is injured at all."

作品全体への理解が浅いために生じる誤読・誤訳の例。天羽が、三角の結婚した亡くなった妻の連れ子だということが理解できていないために、ここですべき墓参りの相手が、彼女ではなく、「あいつ（男）」となっており、かつ、それが誰を指すのかわからない。読者はただ混乱に陥るしかない。そのほか冒頭とラストの一文も修正した。

It’s almost the anniversary of her death, right?"

最低限必要であろうファクトチェック（裏取り）をしていないために生じていると思われる誤訳例。矢代が2巻で百目鬼にやった「虎のトレーナー」とは、虎の絵が描かれたトレーナーであって「虎のようなストライプ柄のトレーナー」ではない。

4巻ラストより、きわめて重要な矢代と百目鬼の会話のエンディング部分。

ひじょうに深刻な誤訳・雑訳で損なわれている例。まず、百目鬼の不能が治ったことに対する矢代のセリフで “great（とても良い、最高だ）” が使われているが、ここは “good（良い）” 程度に抑えるべきと考える。なにより問題なのはそのあとの部分で、「そんなに長い間それ（＝インポ）を堪えて耐えなきゃならなかったなんて可哀想だったよな」と、不能に耐えてきたことに同情するという意味で誤訳されている点。最後に、ずっとそれまで選択肢になかったはずの「セックス」という行為をこの言葉をはっきり使って「せっかくだしセックスするか」と言った矢代の重要なセリフを、「せっかくだし（／ここまできたわけだし）やろっか？」と、あえて “have sex” を使わず軽く “do it” で流してしまっているのも、原文にまったく忠実ではない。
