2巻より。前夜の七原と松原組のケンカを受けて、文句を付けに矢代の事務所を訪れた竜崎と矢代の会話から。

これは雑訳ではない。一カ所、おそらく松原組の若い連中をのしたのは七原ひとりでの行動だったと推測されるので、”for your brats picking fights” が単数形の ”for your brat picking up the fight” と解釈・訳出されるべきではないかというマイナーな点を除けば、ほぼ誤訳もない。便宜上「誤訳のカテゴリー」に入れたが、本稿で取り上げるなかでは例外案件で、翻訳の面白味と難しさを考えるためにあえて紹介する。

ここで難しいのは、竜崎のセリフふたつ。「なめんのはナニだけにしとけよ この淫売」と「お前みてえに 体使って札束数えて のし上がっただけの奴と一緒にすんじゃねぇ」だ。とても訳しにくい。実際、公式英語版の英訳も悪くはない訳出例だと思う。筆者による「オルタナティヴな翻訳」のほうでは、ここで「娼婦・淫売 “whore”」という言葉を竜崎に反復させない点と「ナニを舐める」という表現を拾うことにこだわって訳出してみた。そのほか細々、筆者なりに、原文により忠実になるようにと目指して変更を加えた。読み比べて、両方を味わってみてほしい。

 

Ryuzaki

“Quit fucking around with me!

誤訳と雑訳。原文を読めば、とてもデリケートな言い回しを端々でしており、それらを正確かつ精緻に、英語のような論理的で構造的に明確に完結させる傾向の強い言語に訳出するのは、とても難しいテキストだとよくわかる。著者の日本語原文と筆者によるその新訳と、元の公式英語版の英訳とその対訳と、丁寧に読み比べて頂ければ、どういう点に問題があったのか、どこがとても翻訳しづらいのか、おわかり頂けると思う。ちなみにアニメ映画第一弾北米版ブルーレイでも同じ類の誤訳があったが、「相当だろうな」を「（百目鬼は）相当良いんだろうな」とされていたのも正した。

雑訳と誤訳。とくに後半、どのセリフを三角と矢代のどちらがどんなふうに喋っているのかが取り違えられ混乱が起きているのを正した。
